Duncan Smith - Managing Director and Lead Consultant

Duncan has 28 years successful experience in all facets of ski area management, operations, sales, marketing and development in both USA and in New Zealand. Duncan has also traveled extensively to major resorts around the globe and has a deep understanding of the industry worldwide and an extensive network of industry contacts and associates.

Before forming Australasian Alpine in 2007 Duncan was managing director of NZSki Ltd (formerly Southern Alpine Recreation Ltd), New Zealand's largest ski area company operating three major ski areas, Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt. Duncan retains a shareholding and directorship of this company.

Under Duncan's leadership the NZSki family of resorts developed a reputation of high quality, excellent service and reliable high quality snow conditions. Importantly these resorts have shown significant growth (6.5% per annum compounding over the last 15 years) and rank amongst the worlds most profitable ski area operations.

While experienced in all facets of ski area operations and management Duncan has particular expertise and interest in infrastructure design and development, from terrain capacity analysis and trail design to lift system configuration and snow making system design, installation and operation.

Rodger Powell is a passionate, energetic, marketing-driven and very experienced entrepreneur, leader and advisor in the tourism and hospitality industries. He is currently director of a number of Tourism and Hospitality businesses including Australian International Hospitality Group, Big4 Holiday Parks and the NSW Visitor and Convention Bureau.

Rodgers previous experience includes CEO roles with AIHG, Best Western Australia, Daydream Island Resort and Tourism Whitsundays.

Rodger brings proven expertise in accommodation, food and beverage and tourism destination management and marketing.
